Music Retreat 2026

In July we went to Forrest, where everything has closed down for Winter. With a lovely wood fire, good food, a nice bottle of Scotch and a variety of instruments, we had the ideal opportunity to play music for three days.

The newest addition to the instruments is a small Gothic harp, based on a 12th Century French MS illustration. Craig made a floor box to stand it on, so that it's comfortable to play and has a slightly boosted bass range. I took advantage of our retreat to arrange some 11th and 12th Century melodies for this lovely little harp.

We also finalised our fiddle and guitar arrangement of Rennie Pearson's gorgeous Black River, a new tune we first heard when Rennie played it live at a local gig last year. And, after several rehearsals in Forrest, we felt enthusiastic enough to book two dates to play as Monument! (our guitar/fiddle duo).

Here's the Gothic harp beside the Starfish…
